White Houses by Amy Bloom
As a special treat in September, Liz flew into the Bay Area and visited us IN PERSON to discuss her pick, White Houses by Amy Bloom. White Houses is a fictional account of the real relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and her friend and presumed lover, Lorena Hickok.
In general, the reaction to the book was positive. Many enjoyed the language of the book and the
true love conveyed by the two women.
Others were enlightened by the historical facts that served as the basis
of the book, including events involving FDR.
Cathy opened her home to us, as Liz’s home away from home.
She served us a wonderful lunch and even hosted a small jam session for some
stragglers at the end.
