The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
The first bookclub of 2018 was The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Amy hosted at her home and put on a great feast. Liz joined us over Skype. (We missed you Karen.)
The Hate U Give is a novel about a young woman, Starr, who witnesses her childhood friend shot and killed by a police officer. The killing reaches national news and she and her family have to wrestle with how their reaction will impact their community and their lives.
The book was liked by all. It inspired interesting discussions about racism and the current political climate in the country. We also spun off into some intense conversational tangents. I'll keep it at that. :-)
