The Perks of Being a Wallflower

For our summer book, Amy chose "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky.  Amy was in Hawaii, so a few of us (me, Jen, Rebecca) met up at our house and Skyped with her.  She led a great discussion.

It's a Young Adult novel, published in 1999.  Amazon says it's:

a story about what it’s like to travel that strange course through the uncharted territory of high school. The world of first dates, family dramas, and new friends. Of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Of those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

It certainly reminded me of my high school experiences is many ways, such as going to Rocky Horror and navigating the dramas of high school experiences.

Most of us seemed to have a positive take on the book.  After book club, Rebecca and I watched the movie (and ate wasabi peas).  Rebecca was not a fan, especially of the production choices, but I liked it.  I'm not sure I would have liked it as much if I had not already read the book.
