Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

Bookclub in February of 2019 was a very special event - we were all there in person!

To celebrate 15 years of bookclub, we enjoyed a brunch at the Ritz Carlton.  (Unfortunately, not everyone was feeling up for the brunch for reasons we won't get into.)

Amy's reading suggestion was a riveting book called Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann.  In this non-fiction book, the author describes a forgotten period of American history in the early 1920s called the "Reign of Terror" in which a series of murders of Osage native Americans occurred.  The murders remained unsolved until members of the newly formed FBI started an investigation.  By the end of the book, the reader realizes that the horror of these events goes way beyond the main case described in the book.

We all found the book eye-opening and were surprised that none of us had ever heard anything about it.  We agreed that the pictures laced throughout added quite a bit to the narrative and were a constant reminder that the events we were reading about were real.

In addition to discussing the book, we also reviewed favorite books over the past 15 years and shared many topics including our families and the best way to eat a buffet ... with Bloody Marys.
